Baggio Commits To Lancers Soccer Program
The UCC student, who also plays for the Eastside Kickers soccer team out of Windsor, says she chose Windsor for a variety of reasons related to both academics and athletics.
“I chose the University of Windsor because they offered multiple different programs I was interested in,” says Baggio, who plans to study biotechnology or general sciences.
“After going on a tour, I enjoyed the small size of the campus and liked the idea of being relatively close to home. In terms of athletics, I know a couple players on the soccer team and they thoroughly enjoy the soccer program at Windsor. In addition, I’ve been lucky enough to have played for Coach Daniel Mendonca for the past few years and he helps out with the women’s soccer program so that impacted my decision as well. Also, I was impressed with the facilities offered to varsity athletes. ”
Baggio, who played travel soccer in Chatham to start her playing career before taking her game to Windsor, is excited to compete at the OUA level next season, and hopes to contribute to the Lancers’ success, while contributing to her own success in the classroom.
“With Windsor next year, I am looking forward to receiving a good education and an undergraduate degree,” says Baggio. “In regards to soccer, I plan to continue improving my skills to reach my full potential in hopes of earning a spot on the starting line up next year. I hope that I can help this developing team be successful next year, and in future years to come.”
Baggio, who also plays basketball and hockey for UCC, is excited to get started, but also knows a lot of people have helped her reach this point in her career.
“I can’t wait for training camp to start in August,” says Baggio. “I’d like to give a huge thanks to previous coach Ryan Mendonca, and current coaches Frank Amante, Daniel Mendonca, and Rob Palombo for having such a big impact in developing me as a player on and off the field. Also, I’d like to thank my trainer Colin Roeszler for always pushing me to reach my personal best. Lastly, I’d like to say thank you to my parents for the countless number of hours they committed for me to play, and always being there to support me.”
Baggio is the second Chatham product to commit to the University of Windsor’s soccer program in recent months, as fellow UCC Lancers and Eastside Kickers athlete Jordan Carr will also head to Windsor next year.
