The Dresden Kings showed they have what it takes to hang with the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League’s elite, as they defeated the third ranked Lakeshore Canadiens in game 7 Sunday night to advance to the league semi-finals.

In a high scoring affair, the Kings edged Lakeshore 7-5, and will now advance to face the first place Essex 73s, starting Tuesday.

Jordan Durston opened the scoring in the first period with Dillon Liberty and Kevin Ritzer assisting. After Lakeshore answered, Austin Bentley, with Ritzer assisting, scored again. Lakeshore however would continue to answer back, knotting the game at 2-2 after one.

In the second period, it was Durston and Bentley who scored again, both unassisted to give Dresden a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame.

Lakeshore scored to tie the game, but Dresden would continue to pressure. Kevin Ritzer would scored to give Dresden the one goal lead.

Then with the net empty, the teams would trade goals with Derrick Van Every and Will Tetzlaff scoring to cap off the 7-5 win.

In round two, Dresden will face the Essex 73s, who swept the Mooretown Flags. In the other series, the Blenheim Blades will face the Amhertsburg Admirals.
