The Chatham Y Pool Sharks will be sending a contingent of swimmers to this year’s provincials following a spectacular showing at the WOSA Regional Swim Meet held in Windsor last weekend.

Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad was again one of the top performers for the Pool Sharks, winning four gold and a silver, despite being on the mend from a shoulder issue. More importantly, Broad made four new personal best times at the competition. Broad, who is a grade 9 student at UCC, won multiple gold medals last year at Nationals, and hopes to repeat that feat again this year the first week of April at the Canadian Swimming Trials.

11-year-old Genevieve Sasseville is an up and coming swimmer to watch, proving herself by winning five gold medals at the recent WOSA regionals, which topped all Chatham Y Pool Sharks swimmers. Sasseville dominated the fly and free categories, and also placed third in the 200m IM.

Madeline Tran was the only other Chatham Y Pool Sharks competitor to win gold over the weekend, as Tran showed her ability in the backstroke distances, winning gold in the 200m back, and 100m back disciplines.

The Chatham Y Pool Sharks will now begin preparing for their home meet, followed by Provincials which begin in the last week of February.
