Thunder Storm Through Guelph Tournament
The U-9 Postma Heating and Cooling Chatham Thunder Ringette team finished up a successful weekend at the annual Guelph Predators Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, storming through the competition to win the tournament title.
Addison Tope was in net for all games and was spectacular, allowing just four goals in as many games.
To open the tournament Chatham hammered the host Guelph team 9-0. Scorers with one each were Faith Koning, Myah Walters, Grace Norris, Kaia Rivard, Jocalyn Hastings, Abby Padbury, Maya Haines, Allison Newman, and Kate Thompson. Assists went to Hastings (3), Thompson (3), and Padbury.
In their next game, Chatham would face Ayr, once again striking early and often in this game, walking away with a 9-1 victory. Faith Koning paced the team on the scoresheet with 4 goals, Hastings with 2, and Keira Rivard, Padbury, and Thompson with singles. Assisting were Kaia Rivard (2), Haines (2), Thompson (2), and Mallarie Badder, Grace Norris, Hastings and Allison Newman with single helpers.
Facing Cambridge in their third game, the Thunder continued to dominate winning 8-1 against the Turbos. Scoring for the Thunder were Faith Koning with 2, and Kaia Rivard, Badder, Walters, Brooke Howe, Keira Rivard, and Thompson with singles. Assists were from Walters (3), Howe, Koning, Hastings, and Padbury with two helpers.
Sunday, in the gold medal game, Chatham would again face Ayr. Much as they did in their opening meeting of the tournament, the Thunder stormed by their competition, with a 10-2 victory, securing the gold. Koning again led the way with a hat trick, while Thompson (2), Hastings, Padbury, Kaia Rivard, Badder, Walters, Haines, and Newman also scored.
