Blondeel, Hope At University Cup

Tilbury’s Blake Blondeel and Blenheim’s Kyle Hope will be battling the country’s best University hockey players this week at the University Cup, Canada’s CIS hockey championship.

Blondeel and Hope, who play for the University of Windsor Lancers men’s varsity hockey team, won an OUA bronze medal last weekend, earning their team a bid into the National Championship tournament.

Seeded 7th of 8 teams in the tournament, the Windsor Lancers will have a tough opponent off the hop, facing the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds, who are ranked 2nd, Thursday, March 12 at 7pm.

All games will be webcast live on www.CIS-SIC.tv.

In the regular season, Blake Blondeel, a former Chatham Maroons forward, had 2 goals and 5 assists, with 38 penalty minutes in 25 games. Hope, a former OHLer with the Owen Sound Attack and Oshawa Generals, had 1 goal and 8 assists in 25 games in his rookie campaign. In the postseason, both played all 8 of Windsor’s games, with Hope collecting a goal and an assist.

Former Blenheim Blades goalie Taylor Speed is also a backup for the Lancers.
