Chatham-Kent February Athlete of the Month Voting

VoteBelow are CKSN’s nominees for the February 2014 Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month.

Voting will continue until Sunday, March 7, with the winner being named Monday, March 8. Poll votes, comments below, as well as Facebook comments (www.facebook.com/cksportsnetwork) and Twitter Retweets (www.twitter.com/cksportsnetwork) will be counted as votes. See below the poll for monthly accolades for each athlete.


Sydnee Baker (Chatham) – Goal in LKSSAA final win over Northern, assist in semi-final against St. Patrick’s, and a goal in UCC’s final game of the season against Ridgetown. In the PWHL, playing for the London Devilettes, Bakers finished her season strong, scoring 3 goals and adding 3 assists in 6 games in February.

Matt Clark (Highgate) – With the Blenheim Blades, Clark was the top scoring local player for the Blades, collecting 5 goals and 9 assists in 12 playoff games in February helping the Blades eliminate Alvinston before falling to Amherstburg. At months end, Clark was also recalled to the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons for their second playoff game, where he scored a goal and an assist in his first Junior B outing.

Dane Fox (Thamesville) – After getting out to a slow start in his rookie ECHL campaign with the Kalamazoo Wings, Fox has steadily improved this season and collected 8 goals and an assist in 14 games in February, climbing into the team lead in goals. At months end, Fox had 21 goals this season as an ECHL rookie.

Kara Hueniken (Chatham) – Skating with the Chatham Thunder U-19 ringette team, Hueniken helped her team to gold at the Kitchener Ringette Tournament scoring 5 goals and 5 assists in 5 games. Also in February, Hueniken and her ringette squad won silver medals at the Newmarket Ringette Tournament where she collected 3 goals and 4 assists in 6 games. As well, Hueniken helped the CKSS Golden Hawks girls curling team win a LKSSAA championship this month

Madison Lalonde (Blenheim) – Lalonde had a strong month with the UCC Lancers girls hockey team. She scored 1 goal and 2 assists in final regular season game against Ridgetown, a goal in a LKSSAA semi-final win over St. Patrick’s, and a goal and an assist in the LKSSAA final beating Northern. Lalonde also skates for the Chatham Outlaws Midget ‘AA’ team where she is one of her team’s top scorers.

Maddy Lavoie (Wheatley) – Lavoie won eight gold medals at the WECSSAA and SWOSSAA swimming championships, qualifying for OFSAA representing Leamington. At the WOSA championships swimming for the Windsor-Essex Swim Team, Lavoie took gold in the 400m freestyle, silver in the 100m free and 50m, gold in the 200m back, and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Will Tetzlaff (Dresden) – Leading all Chatham-Kent products in scoring in the month of February, Tetzlaff powered the Dresden Kings to an upset playoff win over the Lakeshore Canadiens, before Dresden was eventually eliminated by Essex. In 11 games, Tetzlaff collected 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points to finish the month third overall in playoff scoring.
