Chelsey Johnson Wins OFSAA Silver
Chelsey Johnson clocked a personal best time of 34.36 seconds in the Junior girls 50m backstroke to place second in the morning prelims. She continued to beat the clock in the afternoon finals with a jaw dropping time of 33.93 seconds, grabbing an OFSAA silver medal. The only swimmer to beat Johnson in the race set a new OFSAA record.
The Junior girls’ team also made WDSS history by finish second place in the Junior girls team overall out of 69 teams. The Wallaceburg Junior girls won a bronze on day one in the medley relay, before Johnson’s silver on day two, and a team 4th in the freestyle relay.
Amanda Metayer, Megan Maxim, Tallie Laprise, and Chelsey Johnson brought their A game to the Junior girls freestyle relay. The girls improved their personal best time by 1.03 seconds to place second in the morning prelims. The A final was another tight race with the Wallaceburg Junior girls missing bronze by just 0.32 seconds for an amazing 4th place finish.
Tallie LaPrise won her heat and placed 7th in the Junior girls 100m freestyle in the prelims. She bettered her ranking in the A final to take an outstanding 6th place.
The rest of Wallaceburg’s swimmers also performed well, with every member of their team making the afternoon finals.
Notably, Kris Chauvin placed 10th in the Junior boys 100m freestyle in the morning prelims. He swam a great race in the B Final for 3rd place and an overall 11th place ranking in the province. Kris also managed a rank 46th out of 88 in the Junior Boys team scoring.
