At Monday’s Chatham-Kent Municipal Council meeting, council passed a staff recommendation to recognize Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame member Doug Melvin.

The recommendation suggests that Melvin be recognized on gateway signs entering his hometown of Chatham, Ontario. The signs are the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce’s gateway signs.

Melvin, who was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012, is currently the general manager of Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers.

The 62-year-old executive has been the general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers since 2002, before which he was the general manager of the Texas Rangers from 1994-2001. Melvin has also worked with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles since his playing days ended in the late 1970s.

Fellow Chatham product and Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member Fergie Jenkins is currently recognized on signs entering Chatham.
