Five Questions With Jake Lindley
Lindley, who is the reigning Dr. Jack Parry Award winner as Chatham-Kent’s top high school student-athlete, earned a starting position with the University of Windsor’s varsity football team this season.
A graduate of Chatham-Kent Secondary School where he was a multi-sport athlete, including being an accomplished basketball player, Lindley also competes for the Kent-Lambton Cougars varsity football team.
Below are Jake Lindley’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions:
1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?
My best memory so far in my sports career would have to be starting in my first game for Windsor against York University. Being a walk-on where not many people expected me to play at all, was a great confidence boost for me as my coaches recognized my efforts and skill to start a freshman.
2. Who is your favourite professional sports team and athlete?
My favourite professional sports team is the New York Jets and my favourite athlete is the quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, Andrew Luck.
3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?
My next personal goal in sports is to become an All-Canadian in the CIS for football. This would be a great achievement for me as I have dreamed about being a Canadian All-Star from a very young age.
4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?
My biggest sports influence would have to be my dad. My dad who was an All-Canadian in the CIS when he played for Western, has always been tough on me but only because he knows what I am capable of accomplishing. He has been to most, if not all of my games starting as a kid playing house league soccer to now playing football at university. He is a great father, and an even better man. He has made me into the person I am today and has taught me life lessons through the world of sport. From not giving up on your teammates, to always working 100% in whatever I do.
5. What do you love most about playing sports?
The thing I love most about playing sports is the competition side of it. As a kid you get so excited because your ultimate goal is to win or beat the other team, and you as the athlete can control the outcome of the game. Whether it’s the game winning goal or game winning save, nobody knows who’s going to make the “big play” to win their team the game. As you get older you appreciate that your time as an athlete is getting smaller, so you know that you won’t be playing for much longer and have to enjoy it while it lasts.
