Sharks Secure In Wheatley, Sale Almost Final
“Team is almost sold to a group of Wheatley business people and is staying in Wheatley, that was the original plan all along that the team stays,” said current owner Bruno Carnevale, who has owned the Great Lakes Junior C franchise for the past seven years.
For Carnevale, the decision to sell his hockey team was not an easy one, but came with family in mind.
“I have been having a hard time letting go but it’s time,” said Carnevale.
Carnevale also asserts, that despite rumours of the team’s struggles financially, including a failed venture to move home games from Monday to Saturday (a move that will be reversed next season), that money did not weight into his decision.
“I was getting upset at some of the stuff I was hearing and in no way was the team having any money issues,” said Carnevale. “We were always good that way.”
“I will miss it for sure and will be bored but I have a 13 month old granddaughter that really doesn’t know me because I was always at the rink and she thinks that I am a stranger,” who says he’s been spending more time with family recently.
For Carnevale, who watched his sons play for the Sharks organization, it’s the end of an era, but he’ll remain a fan of the team, and hopes to see them win a Great Lakes championship in the near future.
