Breanne Nicholas Named Rugby Canada Young Player of the Year

Blenheim’s Breanne Nicholas was honoured this week at the third Annual Rugby Canada Awards Ceremony held in Victoria, British Columbia.

Nicholas was named Rugby Canada’s women’s Young Player of the Year.

“It is such a honour even being considered for 2014 Junior Canada player of the year let alone being the recipient, especially considering the immense talent of elite athletes that play rugby in Canada,” said Nicholas. “It’s hard to believe that out of every young rugby player that could have been chosen they chose me. It really means a lot to me.”

Nicholas helped Canada’s Maple Leafs women’s rugby team to the Cup title at the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens Invitational in Hong Kong, China this spring scoring two tries in the tournament.

Recently, Nicholas also attended Canada’s National Team tryouts for the 2017 World Cup roster, and remains on the team’s radar for the event.

Earlier this year, Nicholas captured Player of the Series honours in Canada’s Can-Am victory over the United States, and helped Team Canada win a gold medal at FISU in Brazil

The scrum half and sweeper also plays for the Western University Mustangs.
