Isaac To Play For Team Ontario At NAHC
Isaac, who is entering grade 9 at Wallaceburg District Secondary School, will play for Team Ontario, as their youngest player, at the upcoming event, which runs from April 27 to May 2.
“We are excited about this group of young women and men named to Ontario’s rosters and the team staff assembled for this year’s event in Halifax,” said Marcia Trudeau, Chair of the Aboriginal Sports and Wellness Council of Ontario’s Hockey Committee in a news release.
“We are confident they will represent our province with pride, and that their dedication to this sport will show through their determination and character both on and off the ice.”
Last season, Isaac played for the Sarnia Lady Sting Bantam ‘AA’ team, and will participate for the second straight summer for the West Coast Selects team, which travels to Italy this summer. Isaac is likely to land on a Midget ‘AA’ team for this coming season.
According to the NAHC website, the event “showcases elite bantam and midget aged female hockey players from First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities from every province and territory.”
Last year, the Team Ontario women’s team captured silver medals at the NAHC event.
The men’s team also has two local products, as Kain Hopkins, who played for the Dresden Jr. Kings and South Kent Lightning will play, as will Walpole’s Jeff Williams, a Lambton Jr. Sting product.
