This weekend at the OVA Ontario Championships in Waterloo, Ontario the 15U Chatham Ballhawks won an emotional gold medal as Division One, Tier Two Champions. Going into the weekend ranked 15th in the province and placing third at two OVA events this season, the Ballhawks had eyes on a provincial medal in the 36-team division. Last season, the team as a 14U team captured a silver medal at Ontario Championships.

Playing their way to a 4-2 record on Friday and Saturday, the confident boys team were set up for a strong performance on championship Sunday. The Ballhawks went 3-0 on Sunday, defeating the Burlington Blaze in the quarter-finals (25-22, 24-26, 15-13), then the North Bay Vision in the semi-finals (25-23, 25-9), and setting up a thriller against the Aurora Storm RipTide in the finals in which Chatham needed a third set to take the gold medal (25-19, 20-25, 15-13).

Overall, the match record for the 15U’s on the weekend was 7-2, including five matches won in the third set.
