The Chatham-Kent Cougars kicked off their 2015 regular season this past weekend with several teams in the organization opening their OFC campaigns.

Facing the Forest City Thunderbirds, the Chatham-Kent Cougars Peewee team opened with a 49-0 win.

Darion Bacik-Hadden scored two touchdowns in the game, running for over 70 yards. Tyler Shumanski also had a pair of touchdowns, while Cody Boulley, Dylan Simpson, and Braydon Hazzard had one touchdown each.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jaxon Rawcliffe had two interceptions, and Dylan Simpson added three sacks..

The Chatham-Kent Bantam Cougars opened the season on the road against the defending champions Burlington Stampeders. The Cougars put up a strong fight but could not overcome 4 turnovers in a 59-33 loss.

The offense was led by a strong performance by Jonathan Cartier who ran for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns. Trenton Amaro also scored on a catch and run of 76 yards for a touchdown on a pass from Julian Ferrell. Ben Barnard scored a 2 point conversion and Cameron Creechan was 2/3 on converts to round out the scoring.

The defense was led by Lucas Doyle who had 6 tackles and a sack. Cameron Creechan and Connor Wright each made 6 tackles. Ethan Cuipka had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Garrette Stonefish had 4 tackles and a fumble recovery. Nakoma Scott, Liam Henderson and Cartier each recorded one interception.

The Kent-Lambton Cougars Senior Varsity team were also in action, falling 39-0 to the Burlington Stampeders.

The Bantam Cougars next play Sunday afternoon, May 31 at 1pm at CKSS, and the varsity team plays Saturday May 30 at 7:30pm. The Peewee Chatham-Kent Cougars are back in action next weekend travelling to play the Clarington Knights.
