Kent Bridge’s Luke Van Rycheghem made his Canadian National Junior Baseball Team debut this week at the Dominican Summer League.

The six-foot-three catcher immediately made his impact felt, going 1-for-3 in his debut, including an RBI single helping Canada (18U) defeated the Minnesota Twins Dominican prospects 11-2.

In his second game, first starting at the catcher’s position, Van Rycheghem went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in a 14-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers’ Dominican prospects. Van Rycheghem, who plays club ball for the Ontario Blue Jays, hit a two run double in the first inning, and was later brought in for a run after singling in the seventh.

In Canada’s third game, Van Rycheghem didn’t hit the scoresheet during an 8-5 to the Toronto Blue Jays’ Dominican prospects.

Canada will play the Chicago Cubs’ prospects Saturday.
