Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham will again be home to the Western Counties Wolverines this summer.

After a successful first season, the Western Counties Wolverines ‘AAA’ baseball team is back and ready for season two.

The Western Counties U15 team finalized their roster this past weekend, including four Chatham-Kent baseball players, Connor Goldsmith, Jacob Breault, Evan Rogers, and Grant Spence.

The Wolverines immediately took to the field for a double header against London, losing both games 8-7 and 3-1, while the team dusted off their offseason rust.

In Game 1, Jacob Breault , Drew Pepper, Brett Allardyce and Grant Spence combined for a 1 hitter over 6 innings, but the London Badgers took advantage of the lack of control as walks were an issue in the 8-7 loss. Jake Taylor and Jacob Breault lead the offence each with a double, while singles went to Greg Hay, Evan Rogers, and Brett Allardyce.

In Game 2, Grant Spence and Port Lambton’s Greg Hay pitched well for the Wolverines but gave up 4 hits over 6 innings to the London Badgers for a 3-1 loss. The Wolverines couldn’t muster much offence in this game as the only hit was an RBI single by Greg Hay.

Jacob Breault will be one of four local baseball players heading to the Tournament 12 baseball showcase, hosted by Roberto Alomar and the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. The event showcases Canada’s best baseball talent, with the Major League Scouting Bureau, and college recruiters on hand. Chatham-Kent’s Lee Kucera, Spencer Marcus, and Luke Van Rycheghem will also play at Tournament 12.
