Despite Bumps, Thrashers Stay Positive
Since moving to Wallaceburg after three seasons as the Sarnia Beavers, the Thrashers have lost eight games.
Although this season has been a rough one, Head Coach and General Manager Gord Lilley says the team has been in every game.
“The league is very strong with a lot of the teams having pro players on their rosters. Nobody has blown us away so that is a positive. We just have to find a way to win.”
As the team takes their time to develop, the Thrashers have certainly made a positive impact in Wallaceburg.
“It has been a very positive impact on the Wallaceburg lacrosse community. We have players from as far away as Kitchener playing for us so the fans get to see some new faces along with some familiar ones that have played Junior B Red Devils here in town in the past,” says Lilley.
“Players such as Joel Shepley, Chadd Murphy, Steve Lilley, Branden Lilley, Kyle VanDamme, Mitch Gagnier, Matt Murphy, Tye Belanger, Reid Miller, Clint Lamarsh and lets not forget Jesse Gross.”
Lilley says the only challenge the team has faced so far since moving to Wallaceburg has been the financial aspect of the game.
“The main challenge is always that of a financial one, it costs on average $25,000 to run a senior team and that is a huge challenge for most organizations. Fundraisers have been going very well along with a lot of dedicated volunteers working countless hours helping to run the team and raise money.”
Over the next few years Lilley says sees organization growing with the hopes of one day bringing a championship back to Wallaceburg.
The Wallaceburg Thrashers will face the Owen Sound North Stars on Saturday June 13th in the hopes of winning their first game.
