Sprints Return To Buxton
It was May of 1996 when Michigan driver Jerry Whitney won the inaugural SOS feature race at South Buxton Raceway.
The series returns to South Buxton Raceway for its third date of the 2015 season this Saturday (green flag 6:30 p.m.; gates open 4 p.m.).
Mitch Brown, of Brantford, won the series opener at Brighton Speedway on May 16 and Parker Price-Miller, of Kokomo, Ind., won the next night at Humberstone Speedway.
Last year, Tilbury’s Kyle Patrick earned his second career SOS win in the August race, his first coming in 2005.
Ohsweken’s Glenn Styres won the July SOS race, his first career South Buxton win after 12 years of trying.
The SOS return on Saturday, July 4.
South Buxton’s five regular classes will also be in action Saturday following a complete washout last weekend. Rain caused its third postponement in the last four weeks last Saturday night. A rain date on Sunday was also rained out. South Buxton was only able to run two of its five Saturday nights in May.
Ridgetown’s Dale and Nick Glassford and his son Nick were the only drivers to go two-for-two in feature wins in May – father Dale winning both Westside Performance Plus UMP Late Model features and son Nick the Autotech Bombers.
Defending series champion Joel Dick, of Leamington, won the May 23 Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified feature after Port Lambton’s Drew Smith won the May 2 opening night. Fourteen-year-old Jake Hooker, of Chatham, was the May 23 Tirecraft Mini-Mods feature winner after Blenheim’s Andrew Reaume was the May 2 winner. The Tirecraft Mini-Mods had first-time feature winners both weeks – Chatham’s Rick Balasin on May 23 and Leamington’s Larry Hart on May 2.
South Buxton management announced this week the start time on Saturday nights has been moved to 6:30 p.m. for the remainder of the season (gates open at 4 p.m.).
And in case of a rainout, races will be rescheduled on Sundays starting at 5 p.m. (gates open 3 p.m.).
The forecast does not call for rain this Saturday, but in case weather does force a cancellation, Sunday’s program would only include SBR’s five classes as the SOS will not be able to run the next day.
Special prices are in affect for Saturday – $20 adults (ages 17-59); $15 seniors (60-over) and teens (ages 13-16); $10 kids (ages 6-12). Children 5-under are free.
