Hannah Cartier of Ursuline College Chatham has committed to York University’s women’s rugby program for the 2015-2016 season. Cartier, 18, is training as a prop and is excited to join the York Lions’ forward pack.

“What excites me most about playing for York is getting the opportunity to experience a university level coach, create friendships with new teammates, and see a more aggressive side of rugby.”

Cartier is looking forward to playing at a more competitive level and is keeping this in mind as she trains during the offseason.

“Success only comes with hard work and that if I want to be successful or improve in the next season, I have to be ready to preform,” she says.

Having been involved with UCC’s rugby program for the past four years, Cartier says her high school coach, Scott Morkin, has ingrained this mentality in her.

“He had a huge influence on my decision to pursue my rugby career. He always told me that if I put the work in, I could play at a higher level,” says Cartier. “I’ve worked hard to become a much stronger, fitter, and faster athlete because of this.”

Cartier is expecting big things for herself as the 2015-2016 rugby season nears.

“I can’t wait to meet girls who are just as in love with rugby as I am,” she says. “This game creates friendships for life and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter of my life has in store for me.”
