The University of Windsor welcomes Keely Baggio and Jordan Carr to the Lancers varsity soccer team. Having played for Ursuline College Chatham during their grade 12 year, both girls are excited to take the next step in their soccer careers.
Baggio, (9), enjoys playing holding midfield or centre back. She says the main reason why she chose to play varsity is to continue to challenge her skills by competing at a higher level.
“I just have a love for the game,” she says. “My main goal for my rookie year is to improve as a player and a person. I hope to make lots of new friends and earn a spot on the starting lineup.”
Baggio has been playing soccer since age five.
Carr (7) is also looking forward to playing at the next level. The defensive player says she owes her success to former coaches Frank Amante and Rob Palombo.
“They have been my coaches for the past seven years. Without their timeless effort and dedication to assisting me to be a better athlete, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Baggio says this is the first year she has played travel soccer with Jordan since her youth.
“I am grateful to have the chance to continue to play with her,” says Baggio. “She’s a great player and we will continue to work and push each other to get better.”
Carr is excited and happy to share this experience with Baggio. “Keely’s a phenomenal athlete who I know will bring a lot to the program,” she says. “I am just thrilled to be able to play a varsity sport at the next level with one of my best friends by my side.”
Both Baggio and Carr look forward to the coming fall and are eager to experience everything that varsity soccer has to offer.
