Julia Meidlinger goes up for a kill.

Trent University’s Julia Meidlinger gears up for her second year of varsity volleyball with high hopes. After a minor concussion during her rookie year, Meidlinger has had a bit of a setback.

“I took a lot of time off for my injury and didn’t rush back into practice,” Meidlinger says. “It was my first concussion and a small one… but I had to pass a series of tests before I was allowed back at practice.”

Meidlinger has been putting a lot of hard work this offseason to compensate for the month she lost, focusing on weight lifting, cardio, and increasing her vertical.

“We have also had clinics in Peterborough this summer with our coach,” says the Ursuline College graduate.

Having played competitive volleyball for six years now, Meidlinger has developed a strong love for the game.

“I don’t think I could pick one part of the game I love most, but what I do love about volleyball as a whole is the many great people I’ve met, “ says Meidlinger.

“Playing at a university level I’ve experienced a whole other level of team bonding that I have never been apart of until now. It has made my first year of university awesome.”

Although busy with her hectic schedule, Meidlinger says she usually takes her free time to relax and grab a quick nap on busy days, or hangout with the friends she’s made off of the court. With her full recovery and focus on training, Meidlinger sets the bar high for herself as she continues her varsity career.
