Meredith Goldhawk Excited To Be A Lancer
Now, the former Chatham Outlaws star will be heading to a new team, and making the step to University hockey, one she is excited for.
“I’m feeling very excited, I can’t wait to get back on the ice and play the level of hockey I’ve always wanted,” said Goldhawk. “I’m also very excited to meet my new team.”
According to University of Windsor Lancers head coach Jim Hunter, his team is excited for Goldhawk to join the Lancers roster as well.
“She is a tenacious and gritty player who works extremely hard at both ends of the ice,” said Hunter about Goldhawk in a team news release. “We are excited to see her develop as she takes the next step into the OUA.
With the clock ticking toward the Lancers’ training camp, Goldhawk is doing her best to prepare for the upcoming season, and show her coaches, and new teammates what she can bring to the ice.
“They do expect us to workout and to get in shape this summer because come September, we need to be in the best shape we can be,” says Goldhawk, who was her school’s nominee for the Dr. Jack Parry Award, an award delivered annually to Chatham-Kent’s top student-athlete.
“I hope to show my coaches that I’m supposed to be there and to show them who I am as a player, but also a student and teammate,” added the Highgate resident. “I also hope to show them that I am a player that doesn’t give up and I will give my 100% effort every shift. I hope to show my teammates that I’m always there if they need me, on or off the ice. No matter what I’ve got their backs and I know they will have mine.”
The Windsor Lancers will face the reigning Canadian champions, the Western Mustangs October 8 to kick off their season in London, Ontario.
Windsor will play their first home game October 24 at South Windsor Arena against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
