It’s a “Throw Back Thursday.”

On this day, July 2 in 2011, Wallaceburg was officially named a finalist for the Kraft Celebration Tour.

Wallaceburg was promoted from the Top 20, to face only one community, Trenton, in a head to head vote to see which town would receive $25,000 and a visit from TSN’s Sportscentre.

Well, we all know how this turned out, as Wallaceburg would win the vote by a landslide, and host a hugely successful Kraft Celebration Tour stop, including the live TSN broadcast.

The money would go toward upgrading an outdoor lacrosse facility, spearheaded by Wallaceburg Minor Lacrosse, at Glen Mickle Park in Wallaceburg.

A few years later, Chatham would get in on the voting, finishing as the runner up in Kraft’s Hockeyville, and earning $100,000 in upgrades for Chatham Memorial Arena.
