Walker: Keen About Upcoming Rugby Season
Having been injured during the 2014-2015 rugby season, Walker’s main priority is to get healthy and stay healthy so she doesn’t lose game time in the future.
No longer in her rookie year, she understands how important motivation is for her teams success.
“I always push myself to play better than my last game, but motivating my team is different,” she says.
“When I speak with the team, I try to focus on aspects of the game that are going really well and then touch on things that can be fixed. This way problems can be addressed in a positive way.”
Entering her sixth year of rugby, Walker has evolved into a natural leader. Having a true understanding of the game and a positive attitude has played a major role in how she encourages both herself and her teammates.
To get ready for action, Walker only listens to one pregame pump up song. She says, “Here Comes the Boom” by Nelly always sets the tone for the upcoming match.
Besides this fitting song, Walker listens to Gatorade commercials where coaches give motivational speeches. “They always get me amped,” she says. “The background music – its prime.”
Walker looks forward to getting back on the pitch and playing the sport she loves now that she is injury free. With help of her personal motivational techniques, she is sure to see success and reach her goals for the 2015-2016 season starting this fall.
