What is Chatham-Kent’s Top Sports Town?
Pound for pound, person for person. What is Chatham-Kent’s top sports town.
Is it a big centre like Chatham or Wallaceburg, is it a smaller corner like Dresden, Blenheim, Ridgetown, Bothwell, Tilbury, or Wheatley? Or is it one of those villages, a Thamesville or an Pain Court, that deserves the title?
In order to answer that, we started thinking about what community has the most sports involvement in terms of minor teams, whether it be baseball, soccer, or hockey. What community has recreational activities for adults? That includes anything from lawn bowling to volleyball. And what community promotes the most athletes to a higher level?

Pain Court is a remarkable little village. Though there may not be any pro athletes to hail from Pain Court, I have known numerous who have gone on to play college or university varsity sports. So, on a per capita basis, it has been quite successful.
Blenheim for a small town has the win hands down. Blenheim has more sports to offer than almost anywhere else: 2 golf courses, a curling club, bowling, Martial arts, Gymnastics, Hockey, Figure skating, Swim Team, 2 Dance studios, minor league baseball, minor league soccer. As well the high school offers a variety of sports, and there are adult baseball leagues and beach volley ball. Blenheim also has Trot to The Beach which is the premiere running event in CK. In the summer the nearby Erieau and Rondeau Yacht clubs allow kids to sail, canoe, windsurf and swim. Most of Blenheim’s facilities are new due to community fundraising such as the Golden Eagles gymnastics club, Erin’d Dance studio, and the Gable Rees Rotary pool. Not only that most of Blenheim’s coaches are volunteers such as all of the coaches for the Blenheim Blast swim team, and they have resulted in National swimmers such as the Van Herk family. Overall the Blenheim Sports community is awesome.
