Corunna’s Drouin Has Mad Hops AND Another Gold!
It may have been a little more dramatic than Derek Drouin had anticipated, but the Corunna native proved once again that he’s the man to beat in international high jump competition.
In a pressure test that saw a final round jump-off on the last day of the World Championships in Beijing, the 25-year-old celebrated another gold medal after clearing 2.34 metres.
Drouin was the only jumper to clear the mark, while the clear hometown favourite Zhang Guowei of China and the reigning World Champion from Ukraine Bohdan Bondarenko were unable to match Drouin. Derek has quickly become the favourite for the Rio Summer Olympics 2016 and seems to be hitting his peak with perfect timing.
Drouin is coming off a gold medal finish at the Pan-Am Games in Toronto. He won bronze at the 2012 Olympics and 2013 World Championships.
