Doug Melvin Steps Down As Brewers GM
Chatham’s Doug Melvin will be stepping away from the MLB’s Milwaukee Brewers, the team, and the general manager announced this week.
Melvin has been the general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers since 2002.
“I’m 63 years old, and I’ve been doing this for 20 years,” said Melvin, on the Milwaukee Brewers’ website. “My gut feeling tells me it’s time to give Mark the opportunity to look over the next generation of general managers.”
Before joining the Brewers, Melvin was the GM of the Texas Rangers from 1994-2001.
He is a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
Melvin has agreed to stay on with the Milwaukee Brewers in some capacity, advising the new general manager, and overseeing certain operations with the organization.
