Flames Blueline Booming, Brodie Central
The Flames locked up captain and stalwart Mark Giordano Tuesday to a six year contract extension, solidifying the Calgary Flames blueline through the 2020. Giordano’s deal is worth $6.75 million per season.
Dresden’s TJ Brodie will be central for the Flames success this season, and for year’s to come, as the defenseman has been a break out player for Calgary in recent seasons.
His place on Calgary’s blueline is also secure for years to come after he signed a five-year contract extension last October. Brodie’s deal begins this season, and is worth $4.65 million per season.
Also on the Flames’ blueline is youngster Dougie Hamilton, who was recently acquired from the Boston Bruins, and immediately signed to a six-year contract.
Add to the group underrated Kris Russell, and veteran Denis Wideman, and the Flames have one of the most respected, and talented blueline corps in the National Hockey League.
NHL training camps are set to open September 17, with rookie camps and tournaments taking place in early September.
