Chatham’s Brendan Harrogate has signed with the Ontario Hockey League’s Mississauga Steelheads.

Harrogate had a strong rookie campaign with the Junior B LaSalle Vipers scoring 21 goals and 38 points in 37 regular season games.

In the playoffs, Harrogate scored another 19 points in 16 games and 14 points in 13 Sutherland Cup games.

“Brendan is a skilled player who has shown continuous development over the past two seasons, culminating in a strong playoff with Lasalle in the spring. We look forward to seeing Brendan in a Steelheads uniform,” said Steelheads General Manager and Head Coach, James Boyd in a team news release.

Harrogate was drafted by the Steelheads in the 7th round of the OHL draft after a strong minor midget season with the Chatham-Kent Cyclones.

“Brendan consistently improved throughout the season,” said LaSalle Vipers general manager and head coach Bill Bowler in a Vipers news release. “That was the biggest thing with Gator. His playoff run was exceptional. He has a knack for scoring goals and being in the right place at the right place at the right time.”

Harrogate joins a strong graduating class of 1998 born Chatham-Kent Cyclones products in the OHL, which already includes Soo Greyhounds goalie Joseph Raaymakers, Sudbury Wolves forward Brady Pataki, and Guelph Storm defenseman Levi Tetrault.

Harrogate will join the Steelheads August 31 when their camp opens.
