Local Sports Briefs: August 17, 2015
- Chatham’s Dave Torrie is taking his talents to Tinseltown. Torrie is leaving his post with the Buffalo Sabres as Head of Amatuer scouting and making the move to the L.A. Kings where he will become a pro scout. Torrie, the former owner of the Chatham Maroons, spent eight years as the GM for the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL.
- 59-year-Old Eugene Hoekstra made it a throwback Saturday at South Buxton Raceway as he won the Modified Feature. That is Hoekstra’s first feature win since the 1990’s. He is a former eight time Champion at South Buxton Raceway. 15-year-old Jake Hooker won his sixth Sport Stock Feature of the season.
- The Windsor Rogues beat the Kent Havoc 33-7 in Niagara Union Rugby play.
- Gracie Barra Chatham held a photo shoot on Saturday for the local competitors on the upcoming Maple City Cage Fighting debut show. MCCF is live at the Chatham Banquet Hall (the former CAW Hall) on October 3. Tickets go on sale this Thursday.
