Local Sports Briefs: August 31
- The Six Nations Arrows are the Minto Cup Champs. The Arrows beat the Coquitlam Adanacs 9-4 in the final game to take the series four games to two. Wallaceburg’s Jordan Durston scored two goals and added three assists in the final game. Durston led the Arrows in scoring in the Championship series with 16 points including 12 assists.
- Canada is 2-1 at the World-Under 18 Baseball Championship’s in Japan. Canada beat Italy 10-0. Luke Van Rychegham of Kent Bridge was 0-4 as the DH for the game. Canada plays Cuba next in pool play.
- Brady Hogg scored two goals as the Dresden Kings beat the Wallaceburg Lakers 7-4 in Great Lakes Jr C Exhibition play. Tyler Shaw scored twice for the Lakers in the loss. In other Great Lakes Jr C play, Essex beat Amherstberg 3-2 while Lakershore doubled up Wheatley 6-3.
- Chatham’s Clark Green nailed six extra points as the Windsor AKO Fratmen hammered Ottawa 44-9 in Ontario football Conference play. Wallaceburg’s Dan Fox plays for the Fratmen.
- All Canadian DB Josh Woodman of Chatham had one interception and three tackles as the Western Mustangs beat the University of Windsor 76-7 in the CIAU season opener. Connor Martin of Chatham also had a tackle for the Mustangs.
- Father and son duo Nick Glassford each won a feature for the seventh time this season. Father Dale took the checker flag in the Late Model Feature while son Nick won the Bombers feature.
