Another day, another Wallaceburg Lacrosse success story.

This time, the Wallaceburg Griffins Novice boys are the centre of praise. And the hero was Carter Barnes.

Every kid dreams of scoring the game-winning goal in overtime or driving in the winning run in extra-innings of a championship game. For Barnes and the Griffins, it was a TRIPLE overtime game winner over Kitchener-Waterloo to secure a provincial championship.

The championship game was played on Sunday in Whitby and capped off a memorable weekend for the novice team, now the Ontario Lacrosse Association ‘D’ Novice provincial champions.

In regulation, the Griffins had their backs against the wall down one goal with 30 seconds left in the game, until Kaelen Smith’s game-tying-goal kept their hopes alive.

Coached by Rory Smith, Emily VanDamme, Mike Parker and Dave Ortibus, the Griffins were 3-1 in round robin play before ousting Barrie 8-5 in the semi-finals.
