“Playoffs,” Says Swayze
It’s been four, long years since the Wallaceburg Lakers have advanced into the playoffs. In those years, the Lakers have amassed only 31 wins in 160 games played.
But all of that is history. After their April 7th meeting, the Lakers announced they had a new GM and Head Coach as well as an almost entirely new executive, aside from Sandy Williams, the Treasurer, in hopes of revamping the Lakers Organization.
Some new faces include Jim McCrea (President), Shane Pollock (Fundraising), as well as Lee Marshall, Isaac Aliperti, and Tony Edwards who were named as directors.
Marc Swayze was named as the Lakers newest Head Coach. Marc brings 10 years of Junior Hockey coaching experience, as well as Junior C and Junior B playing experience to the struggling Lakers.
When asked about his season exceptions, only one word came out of his mouth. A word that hasn’t been used in the same sentence with Wallaceburg Lakers in 4 years. Playoffs.
“The Lakers have struggled in recent years. It’s time for change,” spoke Swayze.
Marc told CKSN that the old Lakers system was more of a “free-for-all” on the ice. Swayze plans to implement a new and successful game plan that will play to the strengths of the Wallaceburg Lakers.
The Lakers will lace ’em up against the Dresden Jr. Kings this Sunday in an exhibition game to begin their 2015/16 campaign at the Thames Campus Arena at St. Clair College in Chatham. $5 to get in, children 12 and under are free!
The Lakers will begin their regular season on the road in Mooretown on September 12th at 7:30. They will be rocking the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena on September 16th at 7:30 for their first home game of the season. They will be taking on their rival Dresden Jr. Kings.
Make sure you come out and support your Wallaceburg Lakers. New year, new team, new expectations.
