The news went from bad to worse for Pittsburgh Steelers kicker, and Wallaceburg, Ontario native Shaun Suisham, as the kicker will reportedly have surgery Wednesday, and miss the remainder of the NFL season.

Suisham injured his knee, a reported ACL injury, last weekend in the Hall of Fame game, the Steelers’ first preseason game.

“What do you say to a guy like that?” said Steelers tight end Matt Speath about the loss of Suisham on the team website.

“I just kind of told him to hang in there. Obviously, he was very bummed. This means a lot to him, so it was pretty sad to see,” added Speath.

“(Suisham) is one of our better players. He’s a great kicker. It’s very valuable to have a good kicker, especially in the conditions that we play in,” continued Speath. “I think it’s going to be a big loss.”

In response to Suisham’s season ending injury, the Steelers signed veteran kicker Garrett Hartley to fill his role.

Suisham is expected to be placed on the season ending injury list immediately.
