Local Sports Briefs: September 1

  • CKXS-Morning-Sports-BriefsCuba beat Canada 11-1 at the Under-18 World Cup of baseball in Japan. Luke Van Rychegham of Kent Bridge was 0-1 for the game. Canada is 2-2 and has to beat South Africa today to advance to the next round.
  • Wallaceburg’s Joel Shepley and Walpole Island’s Isiah Kicknosway are both vying for the President’s Cup which is the top prize in Canadian Sr. B Lacrosse. Shepley’s St Catherines Saints beat the Nova Scotia Privateers 16-7 in their opening round robin game. Kicknosway’s Six Nations Rivermen thumped the Rocky View Knights 14-4.
  • Brady Hogg of Thamesville is the newest member of the Dresden Kings. The King’s inked the 15-year-old last night after the blueliner scored twice in an exhibition game on Sunday against Wallaceburg.
  • The Chatham Strikers women’s Soccer team finished their inaugural season in the London and Area Women’s Soccer League in grand fashion as the beat Byron Force 3-2 to win the Third West Division Cup. The Strikers finished the season with a 12-1-2 record.
