Local Sports Briefs : September 14
– The Blenheim Blades held their Great Lakes Jr C Home Opener last night. The Blades got goals from Drew Marlatt and Nick Delyzer as they skated to a 2-2 tie with the Amherstberg Admirals.
– The Chatham Maroons were 0-2 in the season opening Showcase Tournament in London. Niagara Falls beat the Maroons 3-2 on Saturday as Ian Faubert and Logan Percy scored for Chatham. Listowel topped the Maroons 6-4 on Sunday as Faubert scored three goals ad Brayden Hopkins scored the other.
– Former Dresden Kings player Austin Bentley picked up his first Jr B goal on the weekend as his Waterloo Siskens dropped a 4-3 game to Welland.
– Thamesville’s Fox brothers are both repping NHL teams. Dane Fox picked up an assist in in the Vancouver Canucks’ 8-2 loss to Edmonton in the Young Stars Classic in Penticton B.C.. Younger brother Trent Fox is wearing a St Louis Blues Jersey in the Rookie Tourney that is being held in Traverse City Michigan. The Blues are 1-1 after a loss to Columbus and a win over the Rangers. The Blues play Minnesota today.
– 15-year-old Jake Hooker of Chatham wrapped up the Season Points Championship at South Buxton Raceway by winning his ninth feature race in the Sport Stock Division while Dale Glassford won his 15th feature to win the Season Championship in the Late Model Division.
– The UCC Lancers won the University of Windsor Senior Boys Volleyball Championship by beating Holy Names in the final.
– The Chatham-Kent Ball Hawks are holding tryouts for this week for Girls under 15-18 on Tuesday and Sunday. Go to chathamballhawksvbc.com for more info.
