Sept 29: Local Sports Briefs
– The Wheatley Sharks won a 2-1 thriller last night over the Dresden Kings in Great Lakes Jr C action. Jack Leafeve and Brady Hillock scored for the Sharks while Kyle Dawson netted Dresden’s lone goal. The Blenheim Blades are on the road to Essex to take on the 73’s.
– Wallaceburg’s Jordan Durston has been drafted into the National Lacrosse League. The former Wallaceburg Red Devils player was taken 19th overall by the Vancouver Stealth. The 21-year-old had 155 points for the six Nation’s Arrows of the Ontario Jr A Lacrosse League and helped the Arrows win their second straight Minto Cup National Lacrosse Title.
– Josh Wright of Chatham returned a punt for a touchdown for the Windsor AKO Fratmen and had a total of 98 return yards in a 68-7 win over Hamilton in OFC Football play. Chatham’s Cody St Pierre hauled in a touchdown pass for Windsor as well.
– The LCCVI Lancers will be hosting the Jr. Boys AA-AAA Volleyball Tournament today while John McGregor will be home to the Sr. Boys Tournament.
– The Tilbury Titans Sr. Girls Basketabll team has withdrawn from the LKDSSAA league. The Titans had struggled in their first three games going 0-3 and losing by an average of 35 points per game.
– The Essex-Kent Tournament of Champions was held on the weekend at Erie Shores in Leamington. Grade nine student Haily Katona of Tilbury dominated the girl’s division with a 17 stroke victory after firing a one under 71. Port Lambton’s Brenden Seys was second in the men’s division after an even par 72. Seys finished one stroke behind Kingsville’s Scott Huston.
