September 17 : Local Sports Briefs

– The Dresden Kings spoiled the Wallaceburg Lakers home opener last night as they edged the Lakers 4-3. Derek VanEvery’s shorthanded second period goal was the game winner for the Kings. Will Tetzlaff scored twice for Dresden while Dillon Liberty added the other goal. Justin Melo, Jacon Theoret and Cory Lucier scored for the Lakers.
– The Maple City Hockey league is looking for players for their Tuesday night league. If you are interested please contact Jeremy Suitor at 519-352-7908.
– Luke VanRycheghem homered and drove in three runs for Ontario Green at the Blue Jay’s Academy Showcase Tourney but it wasn’t enough as B.C. knocked off Ontario 10-6. The tournament is showcasing all Canadian college eligible prospects.
– The Chatham Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will take place tonight at the W.I.S.H Centre. Former Maroons star Joe Malo, CFL’er Derek Krete, bowling guru Jim Maynard and the 1989 CK Golden Hawks Sr. Boys Volleyball team will be inducted.
– The LKDSSA 12-man high school football season kicks off today as the CL Golden Hawks will host the UCC Lancers.
– The Girls “A” Basketball season gets into full swing tonight as ESPC travels to Christian, Blenheim is in Ridgetown and LKCS will host Tilbury.
– Ron Glasgow picked up a hole-in-one as he aced the 164-yd seventh hole at Maple City Country Club with a seven iron.
