Flags Run Lakers To 0-12
The Wallaceburg Lakers skated on home ice with a new look on Wednesday night – in more ways than one, but still fell to 0-12 with a 6-4 loss to the Mooretown Flags.
It was “Pink In The Rink” night at Memorial Arena, with the Lakers donning pink jerseys, which were auctioned off for breast cancer research. The Lakers roster also took a new look with the rumoured exit of several Lakers players.
The roster shake-up seemed to send a message early with a 2-0 Wallaceburg lead after first period goals from Jacob Theoret (powerplay) and Brendan Ritchie. Mooretown tied it after two with unassisted goals from Landon Wilson and Alec Segers. The game was penalty filled, particularly in the third, where the Flags capitalized with two powerplay markers of their own from Ben Morrison and former Laker Mike Kindrachuk. Mooretown also received a regular strength goal from Joe DeSena and an empty net backbreaker from Cameron Rannie. Wallaceburg’s Justin Lindsay made it interesting with two third period goals of his own, one with the man advantage, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a four-goal third from the Flags.
Mooretown went two for seven on the powerplay. Wallaceburg was two for nine. The Flags move into fifth place with a 7-5 record, one point behind Blenheim in the standings.
