Kings Drop A Pair Over The Weekend
The Dresden Jr. Kings continue to search for their third win of the season after dropping a pair of weekend games to Essex and Mooretown.
After back to back wins to open the 2015-16 campaign, the Kings have scuffled and are without a win since September 16.
The weekend started on a sour note, with the Kings being shut out at home by the perennial powerhouse first place Essex 73s.
Alixe Saliba scored two goals for Essex, while Tyler Turner led the way with four assists. Matthew Rosati added two helpers. Brett Vorshuk, Phil Janikowski, Michael Vieira and Max Viselli also scored for Essex. Dresden’s Jake Wilkins got the start in net and stopped 23 of 29 shots. Starter Joel Sowinski replaced Wilkins for the final 17 minutes and stopped all nine shots he faced.
The Kings were on the road less than 24 hours later, facing Mooretown on Saturday. Dresden left the first period with a 1-1 tie thanks to a power play goal from Derek Daly. Mooretown took over in the second with a power play marker of their own from Joe DeSena and a goal by Parkr Gilhuly. The Kings fought back in the third with two goals from Thamesville’s Taylor Sisson, both set up by Sisson’s line-mate Derrick VanEvery. The damage had unfortunately already been done with three third-period tallies from Mooretown’s Jakob Reeves, former Wallaceburg Laker Mike Kindrachuk and Brent Blais. The Flags took the game by a final of 6-3 and move to second overall in the league with a 5-2 record.
The Kings fall to seventh place in the Great Lakes Junior “C” standings with a record of 2-6-1. Dresden is back in action on Friday hosting the 8th place Wheatley-Omstead Sharks.
