October 26: Local Sports Briefs
– The Essex 73’s took advantage of the first nine power play opportunities as they beat the Blenheim Blades 3-0 last night in Great Lakes Jr. C action. Amherstberg stayed hot as they dropped Mooretown 4-1.
– The Chatham Maroons won their fourth in a row in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey league as they beat the Strathroy Rockets 6-2. Dede Cato, Luc Knight, Steven Beenackers, Ian Faubert, Teddy McGeen and Austin Thompson scored for the Maroons. In other Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League play Austin Bentley scored the first goal of the night to set the pace for the Waterloos Siskins to beat Brantford 6-3.
-Jonah Pataki of Wallaceburg had his third straight two touchdown game but his Queens Golden Gaels dropped a 49-26 game to Laurier in CIS football play. The number two ranked Western Mustangs rolled over McMaster 46-24 as Chatham’s Josh Woodman had a career high 11 tackles and he also broke up two passing plays in the win. Chatham’s Jake Lindley had two interceptions for the Windsor Lancers as they beat Waterloos 44-14.
– The Windsor AKO Fratmen beat London 26-26 in an Ontario Football Conference semi-final on the weekend. Clarke Green of Chatham nailed a 32-yard field goal and he was also successful with PATs for the Fratmen.
