October 28: Local Sports Briefs
– The Alvinston Flyers shocked the powerhouse Essex 73’s in Great Lakes Junior C play last night with a 6-5 Overtime win in Essex. Cole Keating scored the game winner for the Flyers. The Wallaceburg Lakers will try to nail down their first win of the season tonight when they host the Mooretown Flags at Memorial Arena in Wallaceburg starting at 7:30 p.m.
– The Chatham Maroons will be looking for their fifth win in a row tonight when they head to LaSalle to play the Vipers in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey league play.
– The Wallaceburg Tartans used some sister power to beat the St Clair Colts yesterday in Sr. Girls “AA-AAA” as Sawyer and Brett Fischer combined for 28 points in a 50-41 win. Sawyer Fischer poured in 16 for the Tartans while sister, Brett, hit for 12 points.
– The Lambton Kent Cardinals beat Chatham Christian 36-27 in Sr. Girls “A” play as Shae Sewell scored eight points for L-K and Hannah Badder added six points. Amy Koomans scored 15 for the Flames. Sophia Perpina netted 14 points for the Ridgetown Royals as they beat the North Lambton Eagles 44-24. Adrienne Long added 11 points for the Royals. Pain Court used 15 points from Aubrey Michaud as they beat St Francis Xavier 35-13.
– The Ridgetown Royals had three scorers in double digits as they beat North Lambton 44-21 in Junior Girls “A” Basketball play. Brooke Anderson scored 13 points for the Royals while Dana Beecroft chipped in with 12 points and Ann Ross scored 11. Blenheim beat Tilbury 34-13 as Lydia Hall led the way for the Bobcats with 16 points while Brook Turner scored 11 points.
