Hopkins Powers Blades
Since joining the Blenheim Blades just over a week ago, former Chatham Maroons captain Brayden Hopkins’ impact has been clearly seen.
Sunday night, Hopkins powered the Blades to a 6-3 win over the Wheatley Sharks, scoring a hat trick and setting up another goal for 4-points. In 5 games with the Blenheim Blades since returning from Junior B, Hopkins has 16-points.
Zach Horvath opened the scoring Sunday for Blenheim with Hopkins and Owen Batemen picking up assists.
Nick Tavolieri-Essex would even things up scoring for the Wheatley Sharks only minutes later, but the Blades would add another two before the period was out with a powerplay marker by Hopkins and an even strength goal from Hunter Burk.
In the second period, Kristian Brockelbank closed the gap for the Sharks, but again the Blades responded as Hopkins finished his hat trick. Delaney MacDonald scored again for the Sharks before the period was out to make it 5-3 heading to the third.
The third period saw both netminders settle down, and a lone goal from Blenheim’s Dustin Maines on the powerplay.
Blenheim is back in action Friday on the road against Alvinston, and at home Saturday against Dresden.
