Lakers Back Into A Slump
After a brief blip on the radar, the Wallaceburg Lakers seem to be in a slump again following a 5-3 loss to the Amherstburg Admirals on Sunday night.
Wallaceburg enjoyed a three-game win streak earlier this month, scoring 19 goals in the same three game stretch. There was hope to end a playoff drought that dates back to 2011 with aims to pass Dresden for the last playoff spot in the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League. Now with a five-game losing streak in hand, the Lakers are 11 points behind the eighth place Kings.
The Lakers received support from their top three scorers, with Brendan Ritchie, George Wood and Justin Lindsay each supplying a goal and two assists. Ritchie and Wood gave Wallaceburg a 2-0 lead after one period. The Admirals stormed back with five unanswered tallies in the second period including two goals from Jordan Luciw and Broden Meloche. Spencer McConville also scored for Amherstburg. Mitchell Holden and Curtis Prymack added three assists each. Justin Lindsay’s third period goal brought Wallaceburg within striking distance, but the Admirals were able to hold on to the 5-3 lead to pick up their 13th win on the year and move into second place in the standings.
The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday night, playing host to the power house first place Essex 73’s.
