Madison Broad Swims Up The Ranks
Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad is a fish. A shark, actually. And a darn fast swimmer.
The Chatham ‘Y’ Pool Shark had remarkable results while competing at the Ontario Junior International meet this weekend, proving the 15-year-old could compete with – and beat – older and more experienced swimmers.
Madison made an A final and two B final swims with best times in six out of her seven races dropping a total of 7.30 seconds. She finished 8th in 200 Back (2:11.63), 9th in 50 Back (28.95), 11th in 100 Back (1:00.95) and tied for 29th in 50 Fly (28.89). The meet was held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough.
Broad swam the 50 backstroke with a best time of 28.45 and made the “B” finals coming out 9th . She swam the 100 back with a new best time of 1:00.95 and was ranked 22nd going into the race but pulled off an 11th place finish. Madison was ranked 31st in the 50 butterfly but pulled off a 8th finish with a time of 28.89. The 200 backstroke was her most rewarding dip, ranked 26th but finishing 8th in the prelims, with a new best time of 2:11.82. Maddy followed the prelims up with ANOTHER best time on the 200 back, just slightly quicker than the prelim swim, finishing at 2:11.63 to remain in 8th place.
Broad has stayed Scarborough following the meet, at the request of Ontario Junior International for a post swim camp, with talent from across the country.
Madison had previously been selected to Team Ontario based on her best individual results from the 2014-2015 season.
