Chatham Dragons, Girls Field Lacrosse Ready For First Season
Last year was a test pilot for the Association to see what the response was to the sport and to work on a program for instruction. Now the sport is ready to be introduced to the masses.
Divisions will be offered at all age groups ranging from the little ones ages 6-9 all the way up to an open division for women.
The youngest of players will receive instruction in regards to the sports basics and will be using softer lacrosse balls to make sure they are safe. With registration in the “junior dragon” division their lacrosse stick will be provided to keep cost down to a minimum and to encourage youth enrollment.
As to equipment, all that is needed to play is a “cross” or stick, soft cleated shoes, and a mouth-guard. Eye guards are optional, but are recommended and equipment packages are available which include the guards. This is a non-contact sport so equipment is kept to a minimum. Goalie equipment is provided as will be a jersey.
The C.F.L.A. received $1000 from the Tri-County Optimist Club to help purchase the equipment needed by the organization.
Registration dates have been set with February 9, 10, 11, and the 16th and 17th from 7 to 9 pm at Thames Campus Arena lobby. The season will be starting up (weather permitting) early April and run through the third week of July.
