Lambton-Kent Community Sports Field Named “Wilson Pitch”
“Wilson Pitch” will honour long time community supporters Ewan and Beth Wilson.
The following was posted to the Lambton-Kent Community Sports Field Facebook page about the Wilson’s.
“Ewan Wilson began his career at L.K.C.S. in 1967, the first year of the school’s storied history. Ewan was first on the scene in ’67 when the new greenhouse roof collapsed, himself shovelling snow off the roof to prevent further damage. One might suggest this act is quite indicative of Ewan’s connection to both school and community as he went on to teach 10 years in the L.K.C.S. Science Department, then returning as Principal from 1987-1992. Ewan and Beth (Ms. Butler) met at L.K.C.S., planting roots in our community that would eventually lead to three sons; Andrew, Geoff and Scott becoming graduates of Lambton-Kent. It was during this time that Ewan started Dresden Minor Soccer, an association which would take all comers aged 4-13 for the next 30 years to play recreational soccer at L.K.C.S. for a nominal fee. Teams sponsored by Stedman’s, Canadian Canners and I.D.A. Pharmacy to name a few, would vie for Tuesday night supremacy under Ewan’s leadership.”
The Lambton-Kent project, which is located behind Lambton-Kent Composite School in Dresden is nearing completion of Phase 1. Phase 1 included the construction of a running track, soccer fields, baseball diamond, and improving the irragation system.
