New Soccer Facility Proposed For Chatham

When the Chatham-Kent council begin to hear budget deliberations in the coming weeks, one of the items council is expected to commit to is a new canteen, storage, and washroom facility for the soccer fields at the Chatham-Kent Centre for Community Services.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be asked to commit $265,000 toward the $375,000 project, as well as ongoing maintenance and operation costs, at next week’s council meeting.

The remainder of the funding will come from the Chatham Youth Soccer Association ($75,000) and the Chatham-Kent Public Health Service ($35,000).

Construction of the facility is aimed to be completed in 2016 to service Chatham Youth Soccer Association’s more than 1100 youth athletes, and close to 4000 visitors to the Chatham-Kent Centre for Community Services soccer fields each week.

The soccer complex currently features 15 micro and mini soccer fields.

Operation of the canteen will be run by Community Living and Jobworx.

Chatham-Kent’s council will hear a presentation Monday, January 18 from Deborah Veccia, Supervisor of Chatham Parks, where they are expected to vote on the capital commitment for the project.
