Local Sports Briefs: February 9

CKXS-Morning-Sports-BriefsThe Amherstburg Admirals now have a 2 game to none lead in their quarterfinal series with the Wheatley Sharks.  The Admirals harpooned the Sharks 7 – nothing last like in the Jr C playoffs.  Connor Meyerink gets the shut out for Amherstburg.  The two teams face off again tonight in Amherstburg.  2 other Jr C playoff games tonight, The Essex 73’s will try to stretch thier lead over the Alvinston Flyers when they meet in Essex for game 3.  The 73’s currently lead the series 2 games to none.  The Lakeshore Canadians welcome the Mooretown Flags for game 2 of their series tonight.  Lakeshore took game 1 with a 3-2 victory.

TJ Brodie is back on the line with the Calgary Flames after suffering a hand injury when he blocked a shot.  The Flames hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL tonight.

The Dresden Novice Jr Kings shut out the Wallaceburg Lakers Novice TC 2 team 8- Nothing last night in minor hockey action. The Novice AE team lost to the Mooretown Jr Flags 8-1.  The PeeWee Rep team doubled up the Mount Brydges Cougars 4-2.  Tonight the Atom TC 1 team facing the South Kent Lighting 1 team.  The PeeWee Girls will play East Lambton at the Walpole Island Sports Complex.  The PeeWee Rep team host the Mount Brydges Cougars, and the Minor Midgets are in Ingersoll to face off against the Express Minors.

Ex Chatham Maroon’s defenceman Wes Cunningham of Dresden has been traded from the Missouri Mavericks in the ECHL to the Norfolk Admirals.

Sydney Authier of Wallaceburg made 26 saves and got her first win as the Ryerson Rams beat the Brock Badgers 5-1 in OUA women’s hockey over the weekend.
