A home ice advantage and three first-period goals made all the difference for the Amherstburg Admirals, on the way to a 5-2 victory on Thursday night.

Ryan Alexander opened the scoring at 4:53 of the first, and closed out the opening frame with his second at 16:22. In-between the two markers, Luke Gangnon netted an unassisted power-play goal.

Blenheim fought back in the second with an unassisted response from captain Kirk McKillop just over six minutes in. Tweed’s Dustin Maines brought the Blades within one at the half-way mark, assisted by McKillop and Bryan Boersma. The Admirals led 3-2 heading into the third, where they stepped on the gas pedal.

Alexander completed the hat trick at 15:53 to give Amherstburg a two-goal lead. Broden Meloche capped off a stellar performance to ice the game with an empty net goal, ensuring the win and a one-one series tie.

Meloche also assisted on all three of Alexander’s goals. Broden’s four-point-game give him 15 points through six games to lead all post-season scorers.

Connor Meyerink continued his strong presence in net with 33 saves for the Addy’s. Eric Stewardson stopped 30 of 34 shots in his third consecutive start for Blenheim.

The upcoming weekend offers a double dose of action. Game 3 shifts back to Blenheim Saturday night at 7:30. Game 4 is live from the Libro Centre in Amherstburg on Sunday at 7pm and can be heard live on 99.1 FM CKXS. The action can also be streamed live online at ckxsfm.com
